Steve was fishing Cemex Angling’s Frimley Pit 4 on a 40-hour session where he caught three carp – a 32lb 8oz common, 32lb 10oz common and a monster 38lb 6oz common.

“This was my first trip with the 12000 MAGs. They are without doubt the best reels I have ever used. I’ve used a variety of reels over the years, but these are in a different league. They are a Rolls Royce of a reel,” said Steve.

“The line lay has to be seen to be believed, they cast to the horizon, but the clutch is the key for me: it’s as smooth as silk, so sweet my teeth fell out!” he said.

Steve’s rig comprised of 18lb Fox Illusion mainline and hooklengths. His hook was a size 8 Fox Arma Point LS with a 5oz Distance Lead on a Fox Safety Lead Clip System. Steve’s bait was a prototype he was testing for Mainline, a bait so good that Steve is hoping it’s never released!

The pair was fishing with Fox Sea consultant Alan Yates on the Brighton Diver boat with skipper Paul Dyer. The purpose of the trip was for Steve and Shaun to get a feel for the new Warrior XT rods, which are due for launch later this year.

A number of fish were caught including cod, pollack, pouting and sea bream. Both Steve and Shaun are relative newcomers to sea fishing. Steve is a match angler and Shaun spends most of his time fishing for carp.

Commenting on the trip, Steve said: “I was very impressed with the new Warrior XT rods. They have a great feel to them, especially when you consider the power needed to retrieve heavy leads and fish in depths of up to 80ft. When you consider Alan Yates has helped develop the rods, you know you’re going to get a top class product.”
